Omron BP Monitor

By Donald Joseph Koch "Avid Movie Buff" (Frederick, MD USA)

This review is from: Omron BP791IT 10+ Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, Black/white, Large

I exercise; I eat right; I drink moderately (usually), and my doctor still busts my chops because my blood pressure is high. She orders me to get a monitor and start checking my BP every morning.

So I get online do the research and find the Omron BP791IT. It was more expensive than I expected but it turned out to be well worth the investment. It is accurate, easy to use, and my Doc was impressed. The accompanying software was very easy to install on Windows XP (haven't loaded it on my Vista or Win7 machines), and the user interface is straightforward and pretty intuitive. It is configurable for 1 or 2 users (so my wife gets her own records), however the onboard memory is only able to store 100 readings or about 6 weeks per user. I really like the ability to convert the data to a spreadsheet or PDF so I can take it to doctor's office when I go in for a check-up. The software is very flexible and you can simply print all the information from the device memory or restrict it to a specific date range. As long as you remember to export the data to file at the end of each month, you don't have to worry about losing entries when the onboard memory starts to overwrite old data.

Omron's website also has some very good information on how to controll your BP and I even learned about some breathing/meditation exercises that have helped bring down my BP.

All things considered, I am very happy with this purchase and have recommended it to friends and family.
