Omron BP Monitor

By Donald Joseph Koch "Avid Movie Buff" (Frederick, MD USA)

This review is from: Omron BP791IT 10+ Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, Black/white, Large

I exercise; I eat right; I drink moderately (usually), and my doctor still busts my chops because my blood pressure is high. She orders me to get a monitor and start checking my BP every morning.

So I get online do the research and find the Omron BP791IT. It was more expensive than I expected but it turned out to be well worth the investment. It is accurate, easy to use, and my Doc was impressed. The accompanying software was very easy to install on Windows XP (haven't loaded it on my Vista or Win7 machines), and the user interface is straightforward and pretty intuitive. It is configurable for 1 or 2 users (so my wife gets her own records), however the onboard memory is only able to store 100 readings or about 6 weeks per user. I really like the ability to convert the data to a spreadsheet or PDF so I can take it to doctor's office when I go in for a check-up. The software is very flexible and you can simply print all the information from the device memory or restrict it to a specific date range. As long as you remember to export the data to file at the end of each month, you don't have to worry about losing entries when the onboard memory starts to overwrite old data.

Omron's website also has some very good information on how to controll your BP and I even learned about some breathing/meditation exercises that have helped bring down my BP.

All things considered, I am very happy with this purchase and have recommended it to friends and family.

A Great Way to Check Your Blood Pressure at Home

By Sean Paradis (New Hampshire, USA)

This review is from: Omron BP791IT 10+ Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, Black/white, Large

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
For the price, I couldn't be happier with the Omron 10+ series blood pressure. I have an anxiety disorder, and wanted a simple way to keep an eye on my blood pressure. The heartbeat monitor was an added bonus with the product. The monitor is practically fool-proof. The unit knows whether the cuff has been placed on your arm accurately, as well as if you move too much while taking your blood pressure, allowing the user to be confident with the results.

I have read negative comments about the software. I cannot shed any led onto the software, as I do not use it. I use the meter to occasionally check my blood pressure. I am not looking to have an in depth analysis that software may provide. All I need is an occasional check up.

An added feature of the monitor that I like is the choice of how to provide power. You can either use four AA batteries, or the supplied power cord. That way you can avoid having to use batteries when at home, and use batteries in an instance where an electrical outlet is not available to you.

The only con I have about the meter is the storage bag included. It is too small, and a little flimsy. The monitor and cuff fit snugly inside the case, but it is hard to also store the power cord and USB cable. It would have been nice if a few pockets had been added, enlarged a bit, and added some extra padding.

Overall, I am highly pleased with the Omron 10+ series blood pressure monitor, and would highly recommend it to others.

Blood Pressure Monitoring With Ease!

By Ginny Mapes "Pacific Northwest writer & educator" (Hillsboro, OR United States)

This review is from: Omron BP791IT 10+ Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, Black/white, Large

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The Omron BP791IT Blood Pressure Monitor with ComFit Cuff makes taking your blood pressure a pleasure, not a chore. The cuff is curved with a thumb grip so positioning on the left or right arm is very easy. Instructions are concise and the manual is clear in English and Spanish. This will be good for a doctor or dentist office since the machine does the "pumping up" action in a very quick and effective manner. For people monitoring their BP at home, it is so fast and almost effortless. There is an A or B setting so a couple can trace each reading. A memory function is included for weekly averages. HealthVault is a free web-based platform designed to help collect, store and share health information with their doctor. There is also an instruction video that an be viewed online for accurate unit set up. It contains recommendations to follow before taking a measurement to ensure reliable readings. This information is also in the manual. This is an A+ product, highly recommended.

Omron BP791IT

By Basil MacDougal (The Corner of My Room)

This review is from: Omron BP791IT 10+ Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, Black/white, Large (

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
All of the Omron products seem to be quite reliable. The Omron BP791IT 10 + Series is no exception. It gives a reading that is consistent with what I usually get at the doctor's office. I have an older version that I have used for the past 5 years. It had the old paper printout that was nice...until it ran out of paper/ink. Sure, you can get replacements, but it is just one more expense. With this new unit, it will actually save your readings for you. It also allows for 2 users. So, you can save your readings and the readings of someone else.

I also like that the numbers are big and easy to read. I don't have any problems with my eyesight, but for older folks, I could see that this might be handy to have.

The cuff seems a little bigger than some but I wish it were just a tad larger. I admit I have some beefy arms and usually, at the doctor, they have to get out the bigger cuff. This unit, the cuff seems bigger than on my old one, but I certainly wouldn't complain if it was just a little bigger. I think I would get a more accurate read with a bigger cuff too.

The Omron runs on batteries or electricity. It's small enough to be portable and it also looks nice on my nightstand. I recommend this or any of the Omron BP devices.

The "cadillac" of BP monitors

By Gary in Sun City, AZ (Arizona)

This review is from: Omron BP791IT 10+ Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, Black/white, Large

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This model costs a little more than a basic one but worth the extra, especially considering what it's used for, and how long it should last. There are so many features I especially love. The calibration check, two-user & guest modes, Tru-Read---which takes 3 readings spaced apart then an average of the three, to insure accuracy. AM/PM readings, and enough memory to store readings for several weeks. And an irregular heartbeat detector on top of all these. Though I didn't go on-line to register and use their Microsoft HealthVault software, it has enough of everything else to totally make me satisfied & happy. It's an attractive monitor, comes with USB cable connector, an AC adapter, and even the 4 AA batteries. It will accomodate arms 9"-17" as well. What else could you ask for? I highly recommend this unit and feel it's worth what it's priced at, especially at Amazon. And I almost forgot...it's easy to use.

Accurate and Easy to Use

By Kat "kttykat16" (San Francisco, CA)

This review is from: Omron BP791IT 10+ Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, Black/white, Large

The Omron Blood Pressure Monitor is really simple to use. My mom, a former nurse, has to help take my dad's blood pressure daily because he has hypertension. It's getting more difficult for her to take his blood pressure the old fashioned way (using a stethoscope and manual blood pressure cuff) because her vision and hearing isn't as good as it used to be. She was thrilled to get the Omron Blood Pressure Monitor - all she has to do is slide on the cuff and push one button. The Monitior is easy to use and displays the numbers fairly largely...the digits are about the size of most standard digital alarm clock digits (about 3/4 of an inch tall). When my dad's doctor paid a house visit, he verified that the reader was accurate.

One gripe about this unit is that the power cord and air cord are fairly short. This probably won't be an issue for most, but for those who are using this for someone who is bedridden/cannot move much, you may want to consider getting a short extension cord so that the base unit can sit closer to the patient using it. Outside of that, this reader is a gem. Highly recommended.
